Final Performances

Tuesday 6th May:
Our first show seemed to go really quickly! I think our energy onstage was high and we were buzzing and so it made us motivated and we actually got the whole piece to be pacey, which is what it needs to be. At the beginning we messed up the 'Buzz, Click, Pop' even though we'd quickly gone over it just before we went onstage. In my monologue I went wrong in the opening, and I think people could tell I was nervous, although, I think I managed to hide the fact that I went wrong pretty well, as I just carried on. It definitely helped having an actual audience for the dances, as I felt that we were performing, and it was at that moment that I understood what Simon meant by 'Act as if no one is watching you dancing in your room at home', and that is how I felt, even though I could see our audience. For me, I don't think I put in much effort for 'Run the World' but throughout the play, I improved on my energy in each dance. I think we were quicker at moving into the changing room scene but we still need to work on that transition as it doesn't feel like we are portraying that we are in a changing room. In the corridor scenes, we still ended up in a slight line, but me and Louise made sure we were standing in the middle, just behind Rebekah (when she's talking about dogs sniffing each other) so that we weren't all in one clump/line. We also need to be much louder at Tyler's party because although we asked for the music to be turned up, we need to make sure that we can be heard without us having to strain our voices, although this problem is being solved by having the music slightly lower. In Scarlett's monologue we all need to make sure that we have our candles on before we stand in the circle, because I noticed that some people were only putting them on once they were in the circle, also some of us 'blew out' the candle at the end and some did not, but that wasn't agreed if we should do this, although I think it looks good if we do. When we are the 45 year old's we were all in a semicircle, and so I stepped out a little to make it more spaced out, although I think it may have looked a bit odd that I was the only one who wasn't in the semicircle.... When we became the girls at the end of the play, again, we were all standing in a line, which was not helpful because the audience at the sides wouldn't be able to see us.
At the end of the show, we were able to meet Evan Placey. He congratulated us on our performance and said he enjoyed it. This was a great vote of confidence, knowing that we made the writer of the play we performed, proud.
Overall I think it was a good opening night, considering about a week ago the play was very slow and sometimes we still didn't know our lines or ques, and although we may have missed things out and messed up certain sections, I think we pulled it off.

Wednesday 7th May:
I was definitely more confident for this performance, my monologue went well and I didn't seem nervous. I think after last night's performance we were all excited and we wanted to make this one just as good. For the first time in forever we actually got the 'Buzz, Click, Pops' all right! This, i think, made everyone very proud as it was the first and last time that we were going to do it correctly. I also think we improved the transitions into the changing room scenes, as they were quicker and smoother. Somehow we managed to loose one of the candle's for Maria's monologue scene and so I said that it would be most appropriate for me not to have a candle because I am facing away from the audience so it is less likely that people would see that I wasn't holding one. I think that this show was better than the first as I think overall the show flowed better. I think we still missed a some lines, but we were all able to move past them and just carry on as normal. I also think today's show went better than our first show because the cast knew that more BRIT School students were coming to see it and we wanted to prove to them that the Community Arts Practice strand has the ability to be as good as any other strand, and I know we proved that!
